Based on the archaeological evidences in consistent with the documented evidences within the framework for matching the typological, decorative and chronological characteristics of relics with their knowledge pedigree and scientific contents, the book s Volume 2 is focusing on the logics of the numbering system and their applications in Neolithic China.

In early and middle Neolithic periods, microlithic developers and users in the valleys increasingly skillfully grasped and developed the Fu Xi Gua s numbering system as their rational thinking language and logics to realize the universe and develop science and technology for their struggle for life. Their production and living activities adhered to the mathematical logics of Fu Xi Gua s numbering system, which were translated into Yi-philosophical laws after the origin of characters, so that Neolithic sites in all these regions were furnished with remains and relics embody these mathematical logics. The most general logics embodied commonly by the remains and relics from all the sites can be reduced in the main to four:

The logic of the interpenetration of opposites or the law of the interpenetration of Yin and Yang: 1) odd and even numbers; 2) circle and squares; 3) compasses and squares.

The logic of series 2n or the law of binary fissions and combination (Binomial theorem), or the law of eight trigrams derived from one origin pole or the law one divides into two .

The logic of periodical motion of the number position or the law of periodical motion and changes of universe or the law of the negation of the negation.

The logic of ordinal organization of numbers or the law of organic whole of universe including laws of total connections, orderliness, symmetry, balance synchronicity, holograms of universe.

As shown in remains and relics unearthed from these sites, Neolithic inhabitants in the valleys also used the Fu Xi Gua s natural numbers as their language and logics to conceptualize and handle natural and social matters, even their social organization and spiritual living.

All the archaeological evidences have proven that Fu Xi Gua s numbering system was increasingly accepted as their rational thinking language and logics commonly by more and more Neolithic clans in different regions in the valleys. They successively applied the language and logics to realize the universe and develop science and technology for their struggle for life so that the mathematical logics were translated and developed into the Yi-philosophical laws in written characters after the origin of characters and finally contained in Zhou Yi and other ancient literatures. As all the branches of natural science apart from the earliest branch Astronomy could only develop with the aid of mathematics, Fu Xi Gua s numbering system was the academic foundation and knowledge background for the origin and development of their primitive science and technology. Relying on the increasing scientific and technological power developed commonly with the aid of Fu Xi Gua s numbering system, although their were living in different regions with various features, Neolithic Chinese achieved the sustainable development of their material and population reproductions and hence created unique and unified Chinese civilization.

Eng

A~SO

€{SO

Your inputs are always welcome!

You are welcome to input your comments, suggestions, supports and donations.

There is a bank account of our society for raising funds.

All proceeds will be used to fund publishing the books mentioned above, developing international cooperation on the theme, promoting Universe Yi research and education.

You can contact us by mail via our mailing address on the left side of the page or email at jvs@shaw.ca.

© 2004 The Canada Society of Yi Jing (The Book of Changes).
