It also uses the text related to each hexagram and each line to carry explicit directions on how man should conduct himself so as to remain continually in harmony with these laws. It has been studied and used as the most fundamental classic of philosophy and source of wisdom in China and other eastern countries for more than three thousand years. Since it was introduced to the West in the sixteenth century, it has been taken up by millions of Westerns. </p> <p> Zhou Yi has not only successfully stood up all tests of times, but also won the support of the modern science and technology. With their development, more and more disciplines of the modern science and technology have been traced their roots in Zhou Yi. As Professor G. G. Jung, an eminent psychologist who studied and used the Zhou Yi in his medical work, pointed out, Zhou Yi is able to give guidance over problems encountered in both physical and spiritual matters. To meet the challenge in the 21st century, we have to learn from Zhou Yi to live harmoniously with ourselves, with each other and with the environment. </p> <p> Based on my 30 year-experience in studying and applying Yi Jing, I selected a series of Yi schemes from ancient literatures of Yi Academy to match with the original edition of Zhou Yi. All these schemes are essential for studying and applying Zhou Yi. According to the unearthed bamboo slip-editions of it, I adjusted the punctuation marks in the original edition of Zhou Yi. By combining these schemes with the original edition, it is convenient for you to consult Zhou Yi, to learn how the Way or Dao is configured and what direction it takes at the moment, and to determine what your own place is and should be in the scheme of things. Bu doing so, you can avert wrong decisions , avoid failure, and escape misfortune and , on the other hand, make right decisions, achieve success, and garner good fortune. I do hope this handbook can help you live harmoniously with ourselves, with each other and with the environment by studying and applying Zhou Yi. </p> <p> Although Zhou Yi s principles and methods are described in an allegorical manner by using many terms and symbols with subjective elements, the practice of Zhou Yi does not require the compromise of any religious faith, superstitional belief, or personal value. F. H. Diana, an English consultant of Zhou Yi, said:  To ensure there can be no mistake it is necessary to contact the Yi Jing wisdom of the universal subconscious which knows all the circumstances, has an unbiased, unclouded judgment and knowledge of the future.
