It is under the direction of this paradigm that the human body life process has been studied and healed by TCM practitioners for thousands of years and incomparably rich experiences and knowledge of medicine have been accumulated. All these traditional experiences and knowledge have holistically been integrated within the framework of the five-dimensional coordinate system of the yin-yang binary system. Therefore, the TCM has kept a highly sophisticated, systematically scientific, literate and professional tradition.

As the TCM paradigm, the five-dimensional coordinate system of the Yin-Yang binary system contains fairly strict rules for determining what, why, and how counts as solving an health problem. The multidisciplinary perspectives of the phenomenon of a disease can holistically be described, explained and predicted within the in the five-dimensional coordinate system of the Yin-Yang binary system. Because of the unlimited openness and wholeness of this holistic paradigm, since ancient time Chinese doctors have been sharing this paradigm as a unitary set of rules or standards to approach the diagnosis and treatment of addictions.

In addition to Yin-Yang and Five Xing Philosophy, Yi Jing s organic whole system theory and mathematics & symbolism provide the theoretical and methodological basis for TCM. The TCM diagnosis and treatment of each disease embody the application of these Yi Jing s principles. As examples for showing how to apply the principles to diagnosis and treatment of each disease, the TCM approach to a series of common diseases in West will be introduced here.

TCM approach to Cancer

In our struggle to overcome cancer, we must continually confront the strict limitations of Western Medicine modalities for the treatment of cancers surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. While they kill cancer cells, they undoubtedly weaken and undermine our body structure and functions and immune response. We have to make choice: whether to rely on them or combine them with TCM treatments. The choice determinates the outcome of each cancer treatment in individual cases and the fate of each cancer patient, especially each woman at increasingly high risk to breast cancer.

Because the lack of knowledge and interest of Western M.D.s in alternative cancer treatments, they are helpless in overcoming many side effects, toxicity, short-survival time, premature death caused by Western medical therapies. In addition, patients and their family need information about therapeutic efficacy of both Western and TCM treatments in order to cooperate with their doctors. Thus, popularizing the knowledge and the practice of TCM medicines has become the key to win our struggle against cancer.

TCM approach to Diabetes

Like other chronic illnesses, diabetes, one of three greatest killers of Westerns, can not be cure in most cases with orthodox medicine and are not properly being treated in hospitals. We have to shift the burden of care to self-care or out-patient care in the home setting. To shift to the improved diabetes management, individuals need self-care knowledge and information in preventing and self-treating diabetes.

Traditional Chinese medicine that has successfully passed time tests and been integrated with Western medicine, has already prepared one of the most holistic medical systems available today for both clinical treatment and self-healing of diabetes. Its self-healing system includes herbal teas, diet supplements, acuplasters, self-acupress, self-treatment by practicing Qigong, and other natural therapies and self-empowerment.

Eng

A~SO

€{SO

Your inputs are always welcome!

You are welcome to input your comments, suggestions, supports and donations.

There is a bank account of our society for raising funds.

All proceeds will be used to fund publishing the books mentioned above, developing international cooperation on the theme, promoting Universe Yi research and education.

You can contact us by mail via our mailing address on the left side of the page or email at jvs@shaw.ca.

© 2004 The Canada Society of Yi Jing (The Book of Changes).
